May’s final social was our second Cinco de Mayo-themed social of the month and involved painting some fun hand cacti! We held the social at the Area Agency on Aging on a bright Thursday afternoon. We started the event by introducing ourselves and asking the question, “What are you looking forward to this summer?”
Julie then introduced the craft we were making that day: colorful hand cacti creations! Without further ado, our painting craft then went underway. Each of our attendees took a paint color that they liked and had fun spreading it out onto one of their hands. They then imprinted a handprint onto a colorful piece of construction paper. Once they had an impression of their hand down, they took a couple of different colors to add extra sides to their hand cacti and to even add some colorful flowers as well!
After they were done adding to their hand cacti, they had the option of adding some spikes to it using a pen or marker. They then let the cacti dry as they engaged in some fun social conversation. Once the cacti creations had finished drying, our attendees said their goodbyes and departed.
Though this marks the end of the May socials, we have 3 exciting socials coming up in June: a movie night, pet meet & greet, and nature-themed craft! More information on these socials is available at the “Upcoming Events” page under the “Events” tab. Hope to see you there!
