At our Holiday Party, Compeer surveyed its client-friends to see if there are any social events that they wished we would add to our calendar. The resounding answer was a craft social held on an afternoon. In January, Compeer added “Coffee and Crafts” to our regular social events schedule.
A simple craft is chosen each month and all the supplies for creating the craft are provided. Crafts are often chosen based upon a theme. For example, friends hot-glued shamrocks and gold coins onto Styrofoam wreaths to make a cute St. Patrick’s Day decoration for their home. At our June Social, we created a beach-themed craft: a lighthouse! Using a drinking glass purchased at the Dollar Tree, a baby food jar, and some paint and glue, our friends made a unique lighthouse. One friend was especially excited, as she has her home decorated with many lighthouses!
For friends who prefer a simpler project, Compeer provides adult coloring pages (such as the popular mandala coloring pictures) and markers, gel pens, and colored pencils. And, for those who don’t enjoy crafting or coloring but would enjoy some company, our friends can come and have a cup of coffee with us!
“Coffee and Crafts” is free to our client-friends and volunteers and meets on the third Thursday of each month from 1-2pm at the Area Agency on Aging building located at 710 Maple Street. (Thank you to the AAA for providing Compeer this wonderful space for our friends!)
