CompeerCorps’ third annual Warrior fundraiser went CrossFit this year, as attendees battled it out in several exercise competitions including 5 lift competitions as well as hangs and rows. Overall, over 30 people participated in the competition, helping veterans across Lebanon County! In fact, we couldn’t be more excited to announce that we officially exceeded our goal and have raised $10,100 for the CompeerCorps program!
Warrior took place Saturday September 14 at CrossFit Acernus, a CrossFit gym in Cleona owned by Jeff Boehler and Gary Fuhrman. Starting at 1 PM, the event encompassed the aforementioned exercise competitions as well as tables from several of the event’s sponsors and a raffle contest for awesome prizes, including a basket from Mission Barbecue worth $100! By 12:30 PM many of the event’s attendees were already getting ready for the competitions, and by 1:30 PM the 4 main teams had been drafted for the Grace competition. After Compeer Executive Director Kendra and Jeff introduced several of the sponsors, including James Rovito from First Citizens Community Bank and Sarah Locklund from Herbology, the competitions began!
Each team competed in the Grace competition, which consisted of lifting a large weighted dumbbell over their head 30 separate times; in addition, they had to complete the 30 lifts in under 2 minutes! Each team consisted of 6-7 members, and while many of them were experienced at CrossFit, there were also several competitors competing in the “just for fun” category. The competition lasted for a little over an hour overall, with the additional row and hang competitions occurring simultaneously with the lifts. There was even another lift competition added on due to last-minute competitors! Once the competition ended, Kendra and Jeff awarded the winners gold, silver, and bronze place medals for each of the competitions! The raffle winners were then announced to finish up the event.
We’d like to thank everyone for making this event such a huge success; we could not have done it without support from our sponsors, support from our board, and support from our Compeer friends, volunteers, and clients! We would also like to extend our biggest gratitude to CrossFit Acernus for allowing us to host the event at their space and for bringing in so many of their own members for the event as well! CompeerCorps is such an important program that is needed in Lebanon County, to help veterans that are suffering from their mental health and need that additional support that a strong friendship can provide. By supporting events like Warrior, we are supporting veterans in Lebanon County!
